Changing your password

Each student should change his or her password. In order to do this, you will need to telnet to the GCC VAX. The host address for the GCC VAX is: gc.maricopa.edu.

If you have trouble connecting to the GCC VAX, try using its IP address rather that its host address. The GCC VAX's IP address is: 140.198.32.10.

You have successfully logged on if you see the VAX prompt: GC$. After you have logged on to the VAX, type: set password and hit return.

Follow the prompts. Make sure the new password is at least six characters. WRITE DOWN YOUR NEW PASSWORD. I CAN NOT GET YOU YOUR PASSWORD IF YOU LOSE IT.

After you have changed you password, type lo to log out. If you have trouble changing you password, at the VAX prompt, type: help password.

Configuring Netscape 3 Mail

Use these instructions if you are using Netscape 3 at either Wu Yi or Glendale.

First, format a diskette and create two directories called a:\sign and a:\mail. Using notepad, create a file called sign.txt and type in to the file: your name, (both your Chinese and English name, if you have both) e-mail address and any other information you want appended to your e-mail messages. Save the sign.txt file to a:\sign. Don't put any thing else on the diskette.

After booting the computer, but before starting Netscape, insert the diskette. Start Netscape. Make sure that when Netscape is started, the diskette has been inserted first, i.e., do not start Netscape without the diskette in the a drive.

Configure Netscape by selecting Options > Mail and News Preferences > Composition and then type 2dty115@gc.maricopa.edu in the mail messages text box. Then type a:\mail\sent in the mail file text box.

Next, select Options > Mail and News Preferences > Servers and type 140.198.32.10 in both the SMTP and POP text boxes. Type your username in the POP 3 user name box (this is your 2dtyxxx number -- the first part of your e-mail address. Do not type in your e-mail address, only the first seven characters of your e-mail address). Then type a:\mail in the Mail Directory text box.

Next, select Options > Mail and News Preferences > Identity Type your name and e-mail address. Type you team letter and school in the organization text box. Type a:\sign\sign.txt in the signature file text box.

Next, select Options > Mail and News Preferences > Organization and make sure the Remember Mail Password box in not checked. Make sure the Thread Mail Messages box is checked. Click OK.

The first few times you use Netscape mail, you may get an error message. However, after several attempts, Netscape mail should work. If all else fails, shut down all the applications, shut down Windows, reboot and start over.

If you wish to have a real-time conversation with someone on you team, click here.

When you are ready to upload an assignment that contains one or more files, click your Team link below and then select File > Upload File. If more than one file is to be upload, zip the files first and upload only the zipped file. After the file has been uploaded, send an e-mail message to Mr. Zhao and Mr. Shortridge letting them know the name of the file uploaded.
