GCC's 40th Commencement Ceremony GCC’s 40th Anniversary Commencement was a well-attended and beautifully produced event. Almost 900 students participated in the graduation; a total of 1,924 degrees and certificates were awarded. This compares to 108 graduates in the first graduating class of 1966, who all received an Associate of Arts degree—the only degree offered at that time. Today, Glendale Community College offers more than 50 degrees and more than 50 certificates. Dr. Randolph was master of ceremonies for the evening. Martin Samaniego, Manager of Hispanic Community Relations for Arizona Public Service, gave the keynote address. Vice Chancellor of Business Services Debra Thompson conferred and presented the diplomas and certificates to the students. Comments were made by student body president Quincy Johnson and Honors Program Coordinator Dr. Mary Leskovsky. Students Felicia Kammer and Darling Higgins gave the English and Spanish greetings.
