These are minimum requirements for online syllabi; instructors may add additional direction for students.

Course Information:
  • Course number, title and section number;
  • Semester and year;
  • Official course description quoted from GCC's General Catalog.  You might include a link to the official course description located at http://www.dist.maricopa.edu/academic/curric/
  • If you wish to include a more detailed description, do so in another paragraph.

Class Meetings and Participation Standards

  • Dates, days, times; specify holidays that fall on a weekday;
  • Class location, if the class meets on campus.
  • Minimum number of postings per week in discussion
  • Any standards for quality of participation.

Instructor Information

  • Name, office, fax, e-mail, telephone;
  • Office hours and times available by telephone, and the frequency e-mail will be checked.

Course Materials

  • Any required texts;
  • Necessary hardware and software specifications.

Course Goals and Competencies

  • Specific competencies stating what students should know or be able to do at the end of the course.

Course Outline and Learning Activities

  • Course calendar with week-by-week schedule, including holiday dates (the Academic Calendar is available online).
  • A description and recommended sequence of activities for each lesson, including reading assignments.
  • Due dates for assignments.
  • Test dates.
  • Method for submitting assignments, along with any protocols (filename conventions, etc.)

Grading Criteria and Evaluation Procedures

  • List all assignments with relative grade weight and evaluation criteria.
  • Describe your method and timeframes for informing students of grades on tests and assignments.

Policy for Late Work and Make-up Exams

  • Include a well-defined, precise policy regarding late work and missed exams.
