Shared Network Space (the S: drive)

Shared network space can be requested by eGCC users by sending email to palette-request@student.gc.maricopa.edu.  We are working on an online tool to automate this process and are hoping to have it in place for the start of Fall semester.

From On Campus:

  1. Select "My Computer" from your desktop or the Start menu.
  2. Under Network Drives you will see *[S:]* This is where your S: Drive files are located. This is where you want to put files you would like to share with other employees or your students.

From Off Campus or on an Office Workstation still on "Glory":

For WindowsXP:

  1. Following the Instructions above under H Drive/From Off campus or an Office Workstation still on "Glory" locate and selct the  "Add a Network Place Wizard "and select next.
  2. Select "Choose another network location" then "next."
  3. At "Specify the address of a Web site, network location or FTP site." Select "next."
  4. On the screen you should see "Internet or Network address:" enter in the box:
    https://files.gccaz.edu/shared then "next."
  5. You should see a login screen, login with your eGCC (Palette) username and password.
  6. Rename the shortcut if you wish and select "next."
  7. Select "Finish."
  8. In the Explore window you should now see "shared on files.gccaz.edu" as a shortcut under "My Network Places."
  9. Inside this directory you will see a directory called "Courses" all of the courses you are teaching (or as a student are enrolled in) will appear in this directory.

For Macintosh OSX:

  1. From the Finder, select "Connect to Server" from the Go menu.
  2. On the screen you should see Connect to Server enter the server address in the box:
    https://files.gccaz.edu/shared then select Connect.
  3. In the resulting box titled "[WebDAV] File System Authorization" enter your eGCC (Palette) username and password then select Ok.
  4. A window will be opened displaying the file directories available to you in the shared space.

Course Rosters
Online course rosters are available to faculty at https://genesis.gc.maricopa.edu/faculty/classes.pl .  Faculty must use their eGCC username and password to login to the rosters. There are three formats available: a browser page, photos, and an excel file.  The photos page is never to be printed or saved for privacy reasons.  If a student's picture does not appear on the photo page, it means the student has not had their picture taken for a student ID.  All students are encouraged to have their photo taken and obtain a free student ID for use in the library and other areas of campus.

Discussion Forums
Based upon the Snitz forum software, the Glendale Community College Forums are available for online discussions. The forum, once created, remains available every semester.  The faculty member maintains the forum, adding classes and creating discussion areas. Login, Read and Write in the GCC Forums (.doc) explains basic forum use.  Each faculty member may request a forum to use with his/her classes by emailing Mike Aragon at mike.aragon@gcmail.maricopa.edu .

Email Distribution Lists
Faculty may request an email distribution list for a class.  This is an email address that may be used to send an email to  all of the members of a particular section of a course.  To request an email distribution list, send an email to Marla DeSoto and include the name and section number of your course.

FormWiz
FormWiz is a simple, step-by-step way to create a web page form that will send user input to an eGCC student email account or a MEMO email account.  Some knowledge of html and web page creation is required to copy and paste the form into a web page and save it to a server.

Perception
The Perception testing software allows faculty members to create exams and surveys that are delivered on-line via a web browser window. Access is controlled through eGCC usernames and student ID numbers. Scheduling can be controlled with respect to both time and location, so students could be restricted to a specific classroom at a specific time, or they could be able to take quizzes from anywhere, whenever they want.
