Welcome
to the English Department at GCC. We offer courses in composition,
reading, and English literature.
We also have
a Creative Writing program, an
English as a
Second Language program,
a
Developmental Literacy program to prepare you for
college-level work, and a
Journalism/Mass Communications/New Media program.
Classes are scheduled to
offer flexibility in completing your academic goals at GCC.
Courses are available on
campus and online, during the day and at night, and in both traditional
and accelerated formats. GCC
also offers classes at our campus at
GCC North, at the
Communiversity @ Surprise, and in the far west valley at Valley Vista
High School, 15550 N. Parkview Place, Surprise.
We hope our Web site will provide answers
to many of your questions about our programs and look forward to meeting
you in one of our classes.
Poetry, anyone?
Join the Rorschach Poets on the second Tuesday of every month for
Free Association Poetry Open
Mic from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Room
104E of the student union at GCC. The free event seeks to bring contemporary
poetry to local residents. The event is open to the public, and poetry readers are invited to present all styles and
stages of writing.
On August 11th, Free Association,
a GCC Creative Writing Program series, will feature Patrick Hare, a local
favorite, and Ed Mabrey, the 2007-2008 Individual World Slam Champion.
For the first part of the evening, we invite students, faculty, staff, and the
community to share their poetry, read works by others, and be inspired by the
creative expression. The featured poets will follow. The event is free, open to
the public, and located at GCC in SU 104-E (Student
Union Building).
