Ruth's Remarkable Parodies

More Ruth's Remarkable Parodies

*Cooleagues!*

Alarming as it seems, it IS that time again.... but for this month's little number we must brush the hayseeds from our hair, come in out of the wholesome, plowed field and take our places once again in a smoky
night club.  You'll also need to get together with 4 other friends, picture yourselves in very smartly pressed and highly colorful suits. You'll need somebody to sing falsetto, 4 of you must snap your fingers and a cool sax player to follow your elaborately choreographed moves will also help.

Got it ? Well, get ready!

I never wore a shirt that makes me feel the way that you do.
(They're all too tight.)
Whenever I'm asked what shirt makes kids' dreams real,
I say that you do.
(No other's right).

So, fee-fi-fo-fun
Ain't writin' no wrongs when the term's near done….

But on Friday I'm wearin' a T that's true;
So get ready, get ready,
I'm gonna try to make ya'll wear 'em, too;
So get ready, so get ready, 'cause here the song comes.

(Get ready, 'cause here it comes) it's on its way
(Get ready, 'cause here it comes)

If you wanna turn your back on awful lyrics, let me remind you
(There's no escape)
Those shirts are nearly luminous; I'm pretty sure that I can find you
(When you're a grape)

So, fiddley-dee, fiddley–dum
Just two dollars to Dawn is how it's done.

And on Friday I'm wearin' a T that's true;
So get ready, get ready,
I'm gonna try to make ya'll wear 'em, too;
So get ready, so get ready, 'cause here the song comes.

(Get ready, 'cause here it comes) Friday's on its way
(Get ready, 'cause here it comes)
(Get ready)

(An instrumental break plays in your heads here…)

If all of my cooleagues should swoon for my shirt, I'll understand it.
(But wear your own)
I also know it's hard to cope with rhymes that barely pass for legit.
(I hear the groans)

But twiddley-dee, twiddley-dum.
Wear your purple T and don’t look like a bum

'Cause on Friday we're wearin' T's that are true;
So get ready, get ready,
I know you'll rejoice when you're wearin' 'em, too;
So get ready, so get ready, 'cause here the day comes.
(Get ready, 'cause here it comes) Friday's on its way
(Get ready, 'cause here it comes)
(Get ready)

etc and cue fade...

Just 2 last things!

1) A message from our sponsor (actually, we're THEIR sponsor!) – that would be the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation
<http://www.maricopa.edu/resdev/index.php>.
PLEASE if you intend to give $4 or $8 this term, make Dawn’s life easier and write just one check and give it to her, as the cashier’s office will no longer accept cash!  You can still make a note on the check for the Pat Haas Scholarship or the general English Department Scholarship  <http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/English/purpleshirts.htm> -  Also, of course, this way, you can claim a tax deduction!

2) and last. I have just looked at the English Department web page and noted with *horror* that I have been doing this now for almost 13 years!

Allow me, then, to fool around with just one more song tonight:

Oh, list' to the tale of a poor Irish harper
And scorn not the keys under her old withered hand
But remember these fingers could once move more sharper
To waken the hearts of her dear cooleagues' band.

'Tis a plea from your own aging colleen for help, as I begin to plan me retirement, me own golden years... and remember, the best part when you write this stuff: there are NO depths below which you can sink. It REALLY takes the pressure off!

Looking forward to passing the torch!

Your own bard of O5,

Ruthie O'Callahan!
