Ruth's Remarkable Parodies
*Cooleages!*
Amazingly, it is that time again -- yes, you should be dusting off your
mortarboards, untangling your tassels, and shaking the stray gila monsters
out of your gowns -- but, on the other hand, that's just for
graduation and you have a whole nine days to get ready for that.
MUCH more important is this Friday! Guess what! It's the last t-shirt day
of the year and there are TWO things to celebrate! First of all, Dawn has
a selection of shiny new *INCREDIBLY PURPLE* shirts for sale
(at a measly $15 -- about $3.50 of which goes to the scholarship funds)
AND, second, but best (I do realize that's a superlative in a two item
comparison -- but the news IS good!) of all, below you will find my last
t-shirt song!
*Ready? We're off!*
Thanks for the memory,
Of t-shirts that we've had, of times that made us glad,
Of knowing there was yet a month before I once more drove you mad,
How lovely it was!
Thanks for the memory
Of "Writing On" in red, "Composing" in my head,
Of ranging far for rhetoric, with the emphasis on "ick"
How lovely it was!
Many's the time I've bombasted,
And many's the time you've been aghasted,
Oh, well, it was swell while it lasted
We did have fun and no harm done.
Thanks for the memory
Of t-shirts that we wore, of the way that you forbore
To criticize my ditties even if your ears were sore.
I might have been a headache, but I tried not to be a bore
So thank you so much.
Thanks for the memory
Of sentimental rot, of standards I ain't got
For being /very/ generous, so I didn't write for naught
How lovely it was.
Thanks for the memory
Of purple trimmed with gold, of written wrongs you have controlled
And of mostly listening without building a scaffold
How lovely it was!
I'll say goodbye for the moment
Lest I write a line that I'll repent
Leaving us all with a lament,
No tears, no fuss! Hooray for us!
So, thanks for the memory
To all the purple gang, for what I put you through
From a whimper to a bang, could it possibly be true?
Awf'lly glad I've wrote you, cheerio and toodle-oo
And thank you so much.
I know, I know... Even now, I hear your pleas (or is
that"please"?) "Say it ain't so, Ruthie!"
Well, it IS so unless someone else wants a go. After all, I really mustn't
grab ALL the glory!
Ta ta and have a great summer!
Ruthie
