Art History Resources on the Web. From Chris Witcombe, Professor, Art History, Sweet Briar College. This well-organized, comprehensive site covers all regions, time periods, and styles, and includes links to museums, prints & photography resources, research sites, publications, etc.

World Wide Art Resources - search sub-categories (Cubism, Impressionism, etc.) to locate information on individual artists. Also includes links to artist portfolios.

George Catlin and His Indian Gallery

Greenmuseum.org - site discusses environmental art, and provides information on artists, writings, exhibits, etc.

Heard Museum - information on collections and special exhibits. "The mission and philosophy of the Heard today is to educate the public about the heritage and the living cultures and arts of Native peoples, with an emphasis on the peoples of the Southwest."

Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York)

National Galley of Art - Washington, D.C. - includes an on-line, virtual tour of artists, paintings, sculpture, etc., including text notes.

Smithsonian American Art Museum - site contains over 8,000 images organized by subject, and includes 18 virtual shows.

Phoenix Art Museum - information on exhibits, collections, classes, etc. Includes representative works in the museum.

The Official Salvador Dali Museum Web Site

Timeline of Art History - a "chronological, geographical, and thematic exploration or art from around the world, as illustrated especially by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection."

Web Museum, Paris - includes general and special exhibitions. Artist and theme indexes help navigate the sight.

All-Music Guide - "The ultimate music resource" covers jazz, blues, world, folk, bluegrass, rap, reggae, vocal, gospel, rock, country, and new age.

Charles H. Templeton Sheet Music Collection

Classical Composers Archive. This site provides biographical information. Search by name, nationality, birthyears, etc. It features sections for classical masters, opera masters, pulitzer winners, and a timeline that identifies contemporaries in respective eras.

Classical Net - Excellent introduction to music appreciation, and the development of a personal basic classical music collection. In-depth, readable reviews of recordings.

History of Country Music - A chronological history of country music from its beginnings in the twenties to the present, era by era.

Jazz Roots - a history of jazz, with links to biographies, archival photos, a bibliography, "Fun Facts" and more.
