    Open Netscape Messenger

      1. Start the Netscape Communicator application.
      2. Click the Inbox icon on the Component Bar.

      3. OR
        From the Communicator menu, select Messenger.
      4. Enter your password at the Password: prompt.
      5. Click OK or press Return.


    Create and Send a Message

      1. Click the New Msg button on the Navigation Toolbar.
      2. Click in the To: field, enter the e-mail address; press Return. If MCCD recipient, you may

      3. enter their first or last name and press Return. If more than one match is found, a list of
        choices will be displayed.
        To change recipient option (CC or BCC), click the down arrow on the To: icon and
        select from the drop-down list.
        To delete an addressee, click on the icon to the left of that person's address to select it,
        then press the Delete key.
      4. Repeat step 2 to enter multiple addresses.
      5. Press Tab to advance to the SUBJECT: field.
      6. Enter an appropriate subject, then press Tab.
      7. Enter the text of the message in the Composition window.
      8. Click the Send button in the toolbar when you are ready to send the message.


    Address a Message to a System Mail List

    All system mail list names will follow the naming convention:
    DL-SITE-Listname or DL-SITE-SATELLITESITE-Listname
    site=cgc, dssc, emc, gc, gwc, mc, pc, pvc, rio, sc, smc
      1. Click the New Msg button on the Navigation Toolbar.
      2. At the To: field click the Address button on the toolbar to display the Address Book window.
      3. Select the Maricopa Directory, then at "Show names containing:" enter a search string. * may

      4. be used as a wild card representing any # of unknown characters. For example:
        To search for a particular group's listname: enter DL-*-keyword. For example:
        DL-*-MAT would display all system lists containing the word MAT.
        To search for a list at a particular site: enter DL-site- For example: DL-pc would display
        all lists for Phoenix College.
      5. Select the desired list then:

      6. Click the Properties button to view the members
        (Windows) A window opens on top of the Address Book. Close the window when finished
        viewing the names.
        (Mac) A window opens behind the Address Book. You may need to resize and move the Address
        Book window to view the names.
        Click the To or Cc or Bcc to address the message to the list
      7. Click OK to close the Address Book window.

      8. (Windows) The Composition window will display.
        (Mac) Close the window listing the names to return to the Composition window.


    Save a Draft Message to Send Later

      1. After composing a new message, press and hold on the Save button on the toolbar.
      2. From the drop-down menu, select As Draft.
      3. Close the Composition window.


    Read and Edit a Draft Message

      1. From the Folder Pane of the Messenger Window, locate and click the Drafts folder.
      2. Double-click the message to be edited.
      3. Make edits and format the text as desired.
      4. When you are ready to send the message, click the Send button in the toolbar. If you are not ready

      5. to send the message, you may save it in the Drafts folder again.


    Retrieve and Read New Messages

      1. Click the Inbox icon on the Component Bar to open Messenger.

      2. OR
        If you are already in the Messenger window, click the Get Msg button at any time to download
        new messages.
      3. In the Folder pane, select the Inbox folder.
      4. In the Message List, click once to select and display the desired message.
      5. Use scroll bar to navigate within the message.


    Reply to a Message

      1. Click once to select the desired message.
      2. Click the Reply button to respond to sender only

      3. OR
        Click the Reply All button  to respond to sender and all addressees.
      4. Enter your reply in message area of Composition window.
      5. Click the Send button when you are ready to send the message.


    Print a Message

      1. Select the desired message.
      2. Click the Print button in the toolbar. The Print dialog box will display.
      3. Set any desired options in the Print dialog box.
      4. Click OK.


    Select Single or Multiple Messages


    Forward Single or Multiple Messages

      1. Select the desired message(s) from the appropriate folder.
      2. Press and hold on the Forward button, then select the appropriate option: inline, quoted, or attachment.

      3. Attachment is recommended method.
        OR
        If you just click the Forward button, it defaults to the forwarding option you have set in preferences.
      4. At the Composition window, enter the addressee/s.
      5. The Subject autofills with Fwd: in front of the original message subject. You may accept or replace

      6. with a new subject.
      7. Enter your cover note in the message area of the Composition window.
      8. Click the Send button when you are ready to send the message.


    Delete Single or Multiple Messages

      1. Select the desired message(s) from the appropriate folder.
      2. Click the Delete button in the toolbar.
      3. To permanently remove the message:

      4. If preferences are set to move deleted messages to Trash
        From the File menu, select Empty Trash
        OR
        If preferences are set to mark as deleted
        From the File menu, select Compact This Folder

     
    Retrieve Deleted Messages  (The following actions must be done before Emptying the Trash or Compacting the Trash Folder.)

    To retrieve from Trash folder, select the message and drag it out of Trash into another folder.
    OR
    To unmark as deleted, select the marked message and click the Delete button again.
     


    Attach a File to an Unsent Message

    1. From the Messenger window, click the New Msg button to open the Composition window.
    2. Complete the message with addressee/s, subject, and text content.
    3. Press and hold on the Attach button in the toolbar and select File from the drop-down menu of choices.  The Enter File to Attach window will display.
    4. Navigate through the folders to locate and select the file you wish to attach.
    5. Click Open (Windows) or Attach (Mac).
    6. Repeat steps 3-5 to attach additional files.
    7. Click the Send button when you are ready to send the message.


    Detach a File from an Unsent Message

      1. Select the Paperclip icon in the addressing area of the Composition window to display all the files

      2. attached to the message.
      3. Click the icon for the file to be detached.
      4. Press the Delete key in the keypad above the arrow keys on the keyboard.
      5. Click the Send button when you are ready to send the message.


    Open and Save an Attachment

      1. While reading a message with an attachment, click the link for the attachment.

      2. (Mac)  A Save As window will display prompting you to save the file to disk.
        (Windows)  If you have the correct application on your computer, a Warning window will
        display asking what you want to do with the file; open it or save it to disk. Click Save it to disk
        and then click OK.  The Save As window will display.
      3. Navigate to locate the folder on your hard drive in which to save this document.
      4. Click Save.


    Read an Attachment

      1. Launch the appropriate application.
      2. From the File menu, select Open. The Open dialog box will display.
      3. Navigate to locate and select the document; then click Open.


    Access Netscape Online Help

      1. From the Help menu, select Help Contents (Windows) or Help (Mac).
      2. Select the Contents radio button to display a clickable Table of Contents. Navigate through

      3. the clickable topics to find the documentation you need.
        OR
      4. Select the Index radio button to display a scrollable alphabetical index of topics.
      5. At the Look for: box, enter a topic. A list of matching topics will display.  Navigate through the clickable topics to find the documentation you need.
