  • Create Your Profile:  (save your existing Netscape bookmark file)

      1. Locate and open the Netscape User Profile Manager. The easiest way to locate this is to use the Find command from the File menu and type Profile at the Name Contains box. Locate and double-click User Profile Manager.  (If that doesn't work, log into the network with your GUTS/GLORY account and launch MacAPPs. Open the Netscape Communicator 4.6.1. folder and drag the User Profile Manager to the Applications folder on your hard drive. Double-click User Profile Manager.) The Netscape Communicator Profiles window will display.
      2. Click New to create a new profile. The Creating a New Profile window will display.
      3. Click Next at the Creating a New Profile window. The Information About You window will display.
      4. At Your Name: enter your first and last name

      5. (Example: Karen Russo) .
      6. At "Email address" enter your email address. The email address convention for MCCD is:

      7. firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu
        For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.
      8. Click Next. The Your Profile Name window will display.
      9. At Profile Name: enter a name for your Profile and click Next. If you are using more than one profile, this must be a unique profile name. The Your Profile Folder window will display.
      10. Click Next. The Outgoing Mail Settingswindow will display.
      11. At Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: enter gcmail.maricopa.edu and click Next.

      12. The Incoming Mail Settings window will display.
      13. At "Mail server user name:" enter your username. firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu

      14. For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.
        If the entire username does not fit, enter firstname.lastname.
      15. At Incoming Mail Server: Enter gcmail.maricopa.edu.
      16. For Mail Server Type: select IMAP and click Next. The News Settings window will display.
      17. Click Next. The Shortcut Icons window will display.
      18. Click Next. The Netscape Import window will display.
      19. Uncheck "Import from other programs" and click Next. The Setup Completed window will display.
      20. Click Done. Netscape will launch using your new profile.


    Define Preferences

      1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window will display.

      2. The categories to select from are listed in the scrollable list at the left side of the window.
      3. If necessary, click the arrow next to Mail & Newsgroups to expand options.


    Mail & Newsgroups Preferences

      1. Select the Mail & Newsgroups category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings.  Make changes as necessary.
      2. Under "Plain quoted text beginning with >…"

      3. Style = Italic
        Size = Normal
      4. At "Display plain text messages and articles with" select Fixed width font.
      5. Activate the Checkbox for "Remember the last selected message."
      6. Activate the checkbox for "Confirm when moving folders to the trash."


    Identity Preferences

      1. Select the Identity category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings. Make changes as necessary.
      2. At "Your name" enter your name as you want it to appear in the header of email messages you send.

      3. Example: Karen Russo.
      4. At "Email address" enter your email address:  firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu

      5. For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.
      6. Leave "Reply-to address" blank.
      7. At "Organization" enter GCC.
      8. Optional — To use a signature file, activate the checkbox and then click on the Choose button

      9. and navigate to where your signature file is located on your hard drive.


    Mail Server Preferences

      1. Select the Mail Servers category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings. Make changes as necessary.
      2. Under "Incoming Mail Servers" gcmail.maricopa.edu should be listed. Select gcmail.maricopa.edu

      3. and then click Edit.
        The Mail Server Info window will display.
      4. Click the General tab of the Mail Server Properties window

      5. Server Name: gcmail.maricopa.edu
        Server Type: select IMAP
        User Name: first.last@gcmail.maricopa.edu
        Ex: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu
        Activate the option, Check for mail every 15 minutes.
      6. Click the IMAP tab.

      7. Under "When I delete a message:" select Move it to the Trash folder.
      8. Click the Advanced tab .

      9. Deactivate the Checkbox for "Show only subscribed folders"
        Checkbox activated for "Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages"
        Checkbox activated for "Allow server to override these namespaces"
      10. Click OK. The Mail Server window will display.

      11. Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: gcmail.maricopa.edu
        Outgoing mail server user name: firstname.lastname


    Messages Preferences

      1. Select the Messages category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings. Make changes as necessary.
      2. At "By default, forward messages:" Click the arrow to select the forward option you prefer: Attachment, Inline, or Quoted. Attachment is the recommended option.
      3. Optional — Activate "Automatically quote the original message when replying" if you prefer to have the original message quoted and then select whether to include the quoted text above or below the text of your reply.
      4. Optional - Activate "Spell check messages before sending."
      5. Under Message Wrapping: activate "wrap incoming, plain text messages to window width.
      6. Set "Wrap outgoing, plain text messages at: 72 characters."
      7. Under "Send messages that use 8-bit characters", select As is.


    Window Settings Preferences

      1. Select the Window Settings category in the Preferences window.
      2. At "Choose which layout you prefer for the Messenger window" select the first option.


    Copies & Folders Preferences

      1. Select the Copies and Folders category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings.  Make changes as necessary.
      2. Under "When sending a mail message, automatically"

      3. Activate the first checkbox, "Place a copy in folder…"
        Click Choose Folder.
        In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
      4. Click OK.
      5. Under "When sending a newsgroup message, automatically"

      6. Activate the first checkbox, "Place a copy in folder…."
        Click Choose Folder.
        In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
      7. Click OK.
      8. At "Keep drafts in…" click Choose Folder.

      9. In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
      10. Click OK.
      11. At "Keep templates in…" click Choose Folder.

      12. In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
      13. Click OK.


    Formatting Preferences

      1. Select the Formatting category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings. Make changes as necessary.
      2. Select "Use the HTML editor to compose messages."
      3. Select "Ask me what to do if the message has HTML formatting, otherwise send plain text."
      4. Click OK to exit from the Preferences window.


    Configure the Directory on your IMAP client:

      1. From the Communicator menu, select Address Book. The Address Book window will display.
      2. From the File menu, select New Directory. The LDAP Server Properties window will display.
      3. At Description, enter Maricopa Directory
      4. At LDAP Server: enter gcldap.maricopa.edu
      5. At Search Root: enter ou=administration,o=maricopa community college district,c=us
      6. At Port Number: enter 389.
      7. At "Don’t show more than" enter 100 results.
      8. Click OK. The Address Book window will display.
      9. Select the Maricopa Directory in the Directory list.
      10. At "Show Names Containing" enter an asterisk (*). All users in the district directory should appear in the scrollable list.
      11. Exit from the Address Book window.


    Addressing Preferences

      1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
      2. If necessary, click the arrow next to Mail & Newsgroups.
      3. Select the Addressing category in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings. Make changes as necessary.
      4. Checkbox activated for Address books
      5. Checkbox activated for Directory server

      6. In the box below, Maricopa Directory should be selected.
      7. Under "When there are multiple addresses found:"

      8. Select "Show me a list of choices"
      9. Under "When displaying full names:"

      10. Select "Show names using display name (from address book card)."
      11. Click OK to exit from the Preferences window.


    Multiple Mail Servers in a Profile (adding Palette mail)

    It is possible to add the student.gc.maricopa.edu server to an existing MEMO mail profile (and/or add the gcmail.maricopa.edu server to an existing Palette mail profile). This enables accessing both mail accounts without having to quit Netscape.  However, the preferences will be those of the default server (reply-to address, etc.)
      1. Select the Mail Servers category in the Preferences window.
      2. Under "Incoming Mail Servers" click Add.
      3. At "Server Name" enter student.gc.maricopa.edu
      4. At "User Name" enter your Palette username

      5. For example: krusso
      6. Activate the option, Check for mail every 15 minutes.
      7. Click the IMAP tab.

      8. Under "When I delete a message:" select Move it to the Trash folder.
      9. Click the Advanced tab.

      10. Deactivate the Checkbox for "Show only subscribed folders"
        Activate the Checkbox for "Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages"
        Activate the Checkbox for "Allow server to override these namespaces"
