in a Profile (adding Palette mail)
Create Your Profile:
(save your existing Netscape bookmark file)

Go to Start Button>Programs>Netscape Communicator>Utilities>User
Profile Manager.
The Profile Manager window will display.
-
Click New to create a new profile. The Creating
a New Profilewindow will display.
-
Click Next at the Creating a New Profile window.
The Enter your Name and Email
Address window will display.
-
At Full Name: enter your first and last name
(Example: Karen Russo).
-
At "Email address" enter your email address.
The email address convention for MCCD is:
firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu
For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.
-
Click Next. The Choose a Name and Directory
for your Profile window will display.
-
At Profile Name: enter a name for your Profile
and click Next. If you are using more than one
profile, this must be a unique profile
name. The Set up your Outgoing Mail Server window
will display.
-
At Outgoing mail (SMTP) server enter gcmail.maricopa.edu
and click Next.
The Set up your Incoming Mail Server window
will display.
-
At Mail server user name: enter your username.
firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu
For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.

At Incoming Mail Server: Enter gcmail.maricopa.edu.
-
For Mail Server Type: select IMAP and click
Next. The Set up your Newsgroups Serverwindow
will display.

Click Finish. Netscape will launch using your
new profile.
Define
Preferences
-
After launching Netscape, from the Edit menu,
select Preferences. The Preferences window
will display. The categories to select
from are listed in the scrollable list at the left side of the window.

If necessary, click the + next to Mail &
Newsgroups to expand options.
Mail & Newsgroups
Preferences
-
Select the Mail & Newsgroups category
in the Preferences window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.
-
Under "Plain quoted text beginning with >…"
Style = Italic
Size = Regular
-
At "Display plain text messages and articles
with" select Fixed width font.
-
Activate the Checkbox for "Remember the last
selected message."
-
Activate the checkbox for "Confirm when moving
folders to the trash."
Identity Preferences
-
Select the Identity category in the Preferences
window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.
-
At "Your name" enter your name as you want
it to appear in the header of email messages you send.
Example: Karen Russo.

At "Email address" enter your email address.
firstname.lastname@gcmail.maricopa.edu
For example: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu.

Leave "Reply-to address" blank.
-
At "Organization" enter your college name.
-
Optional ? To use a signature file, click
on the Choose button and navigate to where your
signature file is located on your hard
drive.
Mail Servers
Preferences
-
Select the Mail Servers category in the Preferences
window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.

Under "Incoming Mail Servers" gcmail.maricopa.edu
should be listed. Select gcmail.maricopa.edu
and then click Edit.
The Mail Server Properties window
will display.
-
Click the General tab of the Mail Server Properties
window
Mail Server: gcmail.maricopa.edu
Server Type: select IMAP
User Name: first.last@gcmail.maricopa.edu
Ex: karen.russo@gcmail.maricopa.edu
Activate the option, Check for mail every
15 minutes.

Click the IMAP tab.
Under "When I delete a message:" select
Move it to the Trash folder.
-
Click the Advanced tab .
Deactivate the Checkbox for "Show only
subscribed folders"
Checkbox activated for "Server supports
folders that contain sub-folders and messages"
Checkbox activated for "Allow server to
override these namespaces"
-
Click OK. The Mail Server window will
display.
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: gcmail.maricopa.edu
Outgoing mail server user name: first.last@gcmail.maricopa.edu
Messages Preferences
-
Select the Messages category in the Preferences
window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.

At "By default, forward messages:" Click the
arrow to select the forward option you prefer:
Attachment, Inline, or Quoted. Attachment
is the recommended option.
-
Optional ? Activate "Automatically quote the
original message when replying" if you prefer to have the
original message quoted and then select
whether to include the quoted text above or below the text of your reply.
-
Optional - Activate "Spell check messages
before sending."
-
Under Message Wrapping: activate "wrap incoming,
plain text messages to window width."
-
Set "Wrap outgoing, plain text messages at:
72
characters."
-
Under "Send messages that use 8-bit characters",
select As is.
Window
Settings Preferences
-
Select the Window Settings category in the
Preferences window.
-
At "Choose which layout you prefer for the
Messenger window" select the first option.
Copies
& Folders Preferences
-
Select the Copies and Folders category in
the Preferences window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.

Under "When sending a mail message, automatically"
Activate the first checkbox, "Place a
copy in folder…"
Click Choose Folder.
In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
-
Click OK.
-
Under "When sending a newsgroup message, automatically"
Activate the first checkbox, "Place a
copy in folder…."
Click Choose Folder.
In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu

Click OK.
-
At "Keep drafts in…" click Choose Folder.
In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
-
At "Keep templates in…" click Choose Folder.
In the window that displays, select gcmail.maricopa.edu
-
Click OK.
Formatting
Preferences
-
Select the Formatting category in the Preferences
window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.

Select "Use the HTML editor to compose messages."
-
Select "Ask me what to do if the message has
HTML formatting, otherwise send plain text."
-
Click OK to exit from the Preferences window.
Configure the
Directory on your IMAP client:
-
From the Communicator menu, select Address
Book. The Address Book windowwill display.
-
From the File menu, select New Directory.
The
Directory Server Property window will display.
-
At Description, enter Maricopa Directory.
-
At LDAP Server: enter gcldap.maricopa.edu
-
At Search Root: enter ou=administration,o=maricopa
community college district,c=us
-
At Port Number: enter 389
-
At "Don’t show more than" enter 1000 results.
-
Click OK. The Address Book window will
display.
-
Select the Maricopa Directory in the Directory
list.
-
At "Show names containing" enter an asterisk
(*). All users in the district directory should appear in the scrollable
list.
-
Exit from the Address Book window.
Addressing
Preferences
-
From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
-
If necessary, click the + next to Mail &
Newsgroups.
-
Select the Addressing category in the Preferences
window. Verify the following settings.
Make changes as necessary.

Checkbox activated for Address books
-
Checkbox activated for Directory server
In the box below, select Maricopa Directory.

Under "When there are multiple addresses found:"
Select "Show me a list of choices"
-
Under "When displaying full names:"
Select "Show names using display name
(from address book card)."

Click OK to exit from the Preferences window.
Multiple
Mail Servers in a Profile (adding Palette mail)
It is possible to add the student.gc.maricopa.edu
server to an existing MEMO mail profile
(and/or add the gcmail.maricopa.edu server
to an existing Palette mail profile). This enables
accessing both mail accounts without having
to quit Netscape. However, the preferences will be
those of the default server (reply-to
address, etc.)
-
Select the Mail Servers category in the Preferences
window.
-
Under "Incoming Mail Servers" click Add.
-
At "Server Name" enter student.gc.maricopa.edu
-
At "User Name" enter your Palette username
For example: krusso
-
Activate the option, Check for mail every
15 minutes.
-
Click the IMAP tab.
Under "When I delete a message:" select
Move it to the Trash folder.

Click the Advanced tab.
Deactivate the Checkbox for "Show only

Activate the Checkbox for "Server supports
