Instructions for activating
Roaming on your MEMO account
It is possible to save your MEMO Preferences,
your Netscape Bookmarks, and your Personal Address book to the roaming
server. This will allow you to access them from other than your office
computer. With roaming enabled, it won't be necessary to edit the
Netscape preferences on your home computer in order to access MEMO.
In your office:
-
Start Netscape.
-
From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
-
Select the Roaming Access category, then activate
Enable Roaming Access for this profile.
-
In the User Name box enter your full MEMO
email address.
-
Click the + to expand the Roaming Access options.
-
Select Server Information.
-
Click the radio button to select HTTP Server.
-
In the Base URL box enter: http://gcmail.maricopa.edu:8000/roaming.
-
Click on the Item Selection sub-category (File
Selection on a Mac) and check all boxes available.
-
Click OK to close the Preferences window.
-
Click OK at the prompt, "Your new Roaming
Access Preference will take effect the next time you restart Communicator."
-
Exit from Netscape and immediately relaunch
it. You will be prompted to enter your MEMO password.
-
Exit Netscape a second time. Your Netscape
settings will then be uploaded to the Roaming Access server.
Each time you launch Netscape from your office
computer in the future, a Profile Password window will display. Enter
your MEMO password and click OK.
Important: If
this is your first time accessing the Roaming Access Server, Netscape will
report that your Local and Server preferences are in conflict, and ask
you which copy should be used.
Choose Local if you have already configured
Netscape and your goal is to store those preferences on the server for
synchronizing with another computer.
Choose Server if you are using a Netscape
profile that does not have your MEMO settings and you wish the server to
build a default set of preferences for you. This option will overwrite
most Netscape preferences including bookmarks currently on your computer.
To access your roaming profile
from home:
-
If your home computer has more than 1 profile,
you can just double-click Netscape and select guest from the drop-down
list of profiles.
If only 1 profile exists:
-
Windows - You will need to access Guest
by clicking the Start button>Programs>Netscape Communicator>Utilities>Guest.
-
Mac - Double-click the Guest
icon found in the Netscape Communicator folder on the hard drive.
(You must have Netscape 4.5 or higher.)
-
The Guest Login window will display.
Click the Options button (Windows) or right arrow icon (Mac) to expand
this window.
-
In the User Name box enter your full MEMO
email address.
-
In the Passsword box enter your MEMO password.
-
Click the radio button to select HTTP Server.
-
In the Base URL box enter http://gcmail.maricopa.edu:8000/roaming
-
In the Item Selection sub-category (File Selection
on a Mac) check all boxes available.
-
Click the Login button. A Roaming Access
countdown window will display as your profile is downloaded from the server.
Periodically a Download Conflict window will
display when you are using Roaming Access. In this window you must
select Keep Local File or Keep Server File. The Local File is the
profile on the hard drive of your PC and the Server File is the profile
on the server. You have to evaluate and make a decision here.
If you made changes to your Personal Address Book, Bookmarks, Preferences,
etc. you have to evaluate whether the local or server file is the most
up-to-date and click the appropriate button.
