Web Facilitator Job Description Guidelines

Academic Department Web Facilitators are encouraged by the Web Steering Committee for
various reasons previously discussed and documented. The committee recognizes the many
differences among departments, so the following job description guidelines are meant to be
flexible to accommodate those differences.

The job of the Web Facilitator for a department may include:

Creating or overseeing the creation of  department web pages as appropriate
Maintaining and updating department web pages as appropriate
Coordinating department web activities with colleagues
Providing web development training to department colleagues as appropriate
Consulting with department on web issues
Acting as a point of contact for the department on web-related matters
Serving as a resource person for the department for web-related
     hardware/software/procedures
Providing communication to the department on college web issues
Documenting procedures and processes to provide smooth job transition
Having an ongoing development of web building skills
Serving on the Web Steering Committee

Because web page development requires, like other creative processes, a multifaceted,
continuing time commitment, it is further recommended that department web facilitators be
compensated with a minimum of 3 hours of release time per semester.

The committee will develop appropriate guidelines for non-academic departments/units in future
meetings and encourages attendance by web facilitators from those areas.
