Disruptive Students
In a nutshell, faculty do not have to tolerate disruptive behavior by any student. An instructor may remove a student from class for a wide variety of disciplinary reasons. However, if an instructor removes a student from class for more than one class period, the instructor must immediately notify the appropriate Dean of Instruction of the problem, action taken by the instructor and recommendations, in writing .
Instructors are advised to copy their Department Chairs concerning such problems. If a resolution of the problem is not reached, the student may be removed from class pursuant to the appropriate due process procedures. This is a lengthy topic best addressed by the Student Handbook; or see
Disciplinary Removal from Class on the Maricopa Community Colleges Administrative Regulations web site.
