I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!
My
name is Jim Hamilton and I am your adjunct faculty representative on the
President's Advisory Committee (PAC) at GCC. For the first time,
adjunct faculty now have a voice at the executive level in order to address
the concerns that are unique to those of us who only have a part-time affiliation
with the college. If you're like most adjuncts, you probably have
another job (or two) and, more than likely, don't have a lot of extra time
on your hands to help me with the input I need to properly do my job representing
you. However, busy or not, I really need to hear from you!
I need to find out what GCC can do to help you do your job better ... to
either enhance the learning experience for your students or to enhance
your ability to educate ... or both. I need specifics as well as
generalities that I can then use as a basis for presenting our combined
needs to the PAC for consideration. But I can't do this without hearing
from all of you! So please take a few moments and let me know your
thoughts, ideas, and concerns. You can call me at 623-845-3518 (if
I'm not in, please leave a message) or you can write to me at:
jim.hamilton@gcmail.maricopa.edu
NOTE: Please be assured that anything I receive will not pass beyond me without your express permission.

NEW PARKING LOT CHANGES FOR SPRING 2003
From Regis Della-Calce:
All south-side visitor parking, south of O5 and south of EC, will be relocated to the lot directly west of the Enrollment Center. There will be signs directing visitor traffic to this area and the entrance will be clearly marked. Each visitor space will have a cement marker labeled VISITOR. This lot will provide 29 visitor spaces and 20-minute parking in addition to the existing disabled parking spaces and city police space.
All parking between the O5 and LA buildings and the east/west loop road will be employee parking. Each entry to these parking lanes will have Employee Parking signs posted, asphalt painting, and yellow striping. The two ATM parking spaces will be turned into one disabled parking slot and should eliminate the tight turns and backing up that occurred from ATM use. Efforts will be made to direct drop-off/pick-up traffic to the traffic circle where it will be less disruptive.
There will be no designated ATM parking at this time. We will be looking for a new location for the ATM, working with the vendor to provide the best place for their business and our safety concerns.
The employee parking directly south of the Enrollment Center will be changed to two full rows. This will eliminate the three rows that were half-employee/half-student parking and minimize the trolling and speeding through the employee areas that had been a result of this shared space. The two new employee lanes will be clearly marked with signs* and asphalt painting.
* As a pilot project, these signs will state:
Employee ParkingThis will provide evening students with access to the mostly empty employee parking areas at night. If this pilot proves successful, we may look to other selected employee parking areas for similar access to evening students.
7:00am - 5:30pm
We will continue to monitor all parking areas to identify new ways to improve on the traffic flows and patterns that result from the existing design of the access and loop roads. Our foremost concern is providing safe pedestrian flow and clearly marked access to visitor and employee areas.
[NOTE: Another pilot project: students will no longer be required to have parking decals for Spring 2003]
