Three years from now what do you want to see in how we use and deliver
technology?
I. ACCESS
Facilities - Instruction/Labs
Continued increase in availability of electronic multimedia, Internet,
videoconferencing, projector/computer, CD-ROM based materials and resources.
More areas represented in lab space with the necessary support
Increased resources available to students for their own laptops in classrooms
and labs
Specialized labs and general pits with some specialized computers
Increased hours and flexibility in computer and non-computer classroom/lab
use and scheduling
Larger (N=50) computer classrooms
Universal Access
One, easy, good looking e-mail system as common as phone
Free or affordable high speed Internet access at home for students and
faculty
On-campus kiosks or ugly tellers providing computer access
Part-time faculty will all have web space available, training available,
office space, and be encouraged to post web pages
Ability to work from home (telecommute)
Software and hardware reliability will be "utility grade"
Wireless computer networks available and affordable
Access for handicapped personnel
Interactive video links to GCC North
Web Teaching and Testing - "The ability to deliver classes anywhere/anytime
and the support to make it happen"
Web-based OE/OE classes
Increase number of web-delivered courses
Syllabus, course handouts, texts on web
Authenticated web-based testing
Web-based placement testing available for potential students
Suitability of computer-based assessment programs
Web delivery of campus/employee information including online class selection
Video capability with Internet
II. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE/SYSTEMS
New Hardware - Equipment
Electronic whiteboard for math and science
Wireless links for laptops for faculty use
Accommodate student laptops on campus
Continue to increase number of digital cameras and laptops for check out
TV 2-way, TV Studio (VCN,IPTV)
More projection systems in conference rooms
Evaluate & expand O/S options
Evaluate and implement software upgrades
Streamline purchasing by sharing districtwide purchasing info
Enough $ to sustain our hardware/software needs including the desktop project
Network Architecture
Redundant application servers
Firewall and monitoring for "bad things"
Remote upgrades of local software
Redundant network core
III. TRAINING & SUPPORT
TIME to develop and maintain software proficiency
On-going release time for faculty involved in web development and alternative
delivery of courses and programs
Training for technical staff
Help in authoring web-delivered courses
IV. ADMINISTRATION/STUDENT SERVICES
More student stations, plan for growth
Using web for high school recruitment and advisement
Expand virtual library
Electronic document distribution
V. 4TH YEAR - THE FUTURE
Laptop for each full-time faculty and managers
Keypad entrance to all buildings
All students will have their own computers
Equipment for home-used often for work
