Current Assigned Commitee, GeoAssist
Since I arrived at GCC, I have participated in tthe GeoAssist program within the Physical Sciences Department. This program provides one-on-one and group tutoring to students enrolled in Geology courses.
Faculty Participant, Science Olympiad
Since I arrived at GCC, I have participated in the Science Olympiad, a national program to promote science through a series of competitions among middle and high school students throughout the community. My role is to set up exercises in the Earth Sciences that foster the application of critical thinking and problem solving skills. I also proctor these events during the State Competition hosted on a Saturday every Spring by GCC.
Faculty Committee Member, Web Steering Committee, Capital Resources Committee (CRC)
I also serve on the GCC Web Steering Committee, a consulting body of the Computer Technology Committee (CTC). The chief function of the Web Steering Committee is to advise the CTC and faculty on matters of web development.
Faculty Committee Member, Capital Resources Committee (CRC) Fall, 2004- Spring 2006
Former chair of the Capital Resources Committee, a consulting body of the Computer Technology Committee (CTC). The CRC is charged with the difficult task of advising the President's Budget Advisory Committee on capital requests associated with computer technology. Helped draft the Data Projector Upgrade Program (DPUP).
Faculty Committee Member, Staffing Committee, Spring 2002 - Spring 2003
This committee is charged with the difficult task of ranking requests for residential faculty.
Faculty Committee Member, Employee Recognition
As per recommendation by the President's Executive Committee, an Employee Recognition Committee was established last year to examine awards and general morale boosting activities within the campus employee and student communities. I participated in the initial research phase of that committee, and to my knowledge, am still on it although lately I have not been called upon to serve in any of it's activities.
Faculty Co-Advisor, Glendale Greens
Although my official curriculum assignment is the Science Olympiad, I served as a faculty co-advisor to the apparently defunct Glendale Green's Club along with Wayne Johnson and Bob Thompson. Fortunately, Wayne assumed most of the responsibility for week-to-week club guidance. I did, however, made several efforts on the Club's behalf to arrange a tour of the Museum of Northern Arizona's geological, archaeological, and cultural collections with a special tour of the paleontological research labs. In addition, I accompanied the club on one of its all-day field excursions.
