CIS118AB - Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Level I - Syllabus 1 Credit

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is the first in a sequence of courses on Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. The content of this course includes using Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 to:

Create a PowerPoint presentation

Edit a PowerPoint presentation

Print a PowerPoint presentation in a variety of ways

Use PowerPoint's outline feature

Use PowerPoint templates

The work for this class will be done on Windows based computers using Microsoft PowerPoint 2003, Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. This course can NOT be completed with America OnLine.

II. COURSE MATERIALS

III. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

This course is organized into seven Lessons. Each Lesson covers one chapter from the text. You need to carefully work your way through each Lesson. Do NOT jump around from one part to another. Each Lesson has the following parts:

Getting Started - This will consists of any items that you should have done prior to starting a particular lesson and an overview of what will be covered in the lesson.

Reading / Practice- There are two types of reading

The first type is assigned reading from the text. - Do not skip doing the step by step hands-on practice in the textbook.
The second type is OPTIONAL information. This is additional information that students have found helpful and is indicated with the graphic.

Lesson Assignment - After you have completed the Reading / Practice portion of a Lesson, you will then be ready to start the Lesson Assignment. Your assignments will be sent in to be graded through e-mail by using a button at the bottom of the assignment page. If an assignment is sent in incorrectly, it will NOT be graded. Once an assignment has been graded it may not be resubmitted for a higher score unless indicated by the instructor / grader.

Quiz - At the end of each Lesson is a 10 question multiple choice Quiz. You may take the quiz only one time. If you access the quiz more than one time, your first score will be recorded. Each quiz is worth 10 points.

IV. GRADING

Please carefully read the following about when and how things are graded in this course:

Assignments are be graded about twice a week.
Course grades are calculated once every two weeks. If you need a grade at an earlier time you must use the "Ask a Question" link on the CIS118AB pages to request special arrangements several days in advance.
All assignments and questions MUST be sent in using the links on the CIS118AB pages.

DO NOT send Assignments or Questions through regular email to a specific person (i.e. the instructor or grader).

A. Grading Scale

Grades are an evaluation of the student's learning. Your grade will reflect your level of competency. Your grade will be based on the following point system:

Seven Lesson Assignments	180
Seven Quizzes @ 10 points per quiz	70

B. Converting Points to a Grade

Your letter grade will be determined by the following scale. Students taking this course Pass/Fail must achieve a score of 175 or better to Pass. Course grades are calculated once every two weeks. If you need a grade sooner, please send a request using the "Ask a Question" link. We will try to assist, especially if you give us a few days warning.

F	174 - 000 points

V. OTHER IMPORTANT POLICIES

A. Extensions

You are permitted ONLY ONE extension of 8 school weeks (a school week is when classes are in session) past your present end date. Requests to have your end date extended MUST be sent in using the Extension Request Form at the CIS118 home page. You should receive an email reply in several days letting you know the status of your extension request.

In order to be granted that extension you MUST have completed at least the following:

Assignment 1
Quiz 1

Do not call, email or use the green forms in the High Tech Centers to request an extension. Extensions are only considered if you fill out and submit the on-line extension request form.

B. Academic Dishonesty

Students are expected to do their own assignments. Instances of academic dishonesty will result in NO CREDIT for the assignments for all who participate; repeated instances will result in a final grade of F.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Students are expected to be familiar with college policies covered in the Glendale Community College catalog.
