I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

The content of this course includes using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 to create, edit and organize a PowerPoint presentation, including adding notes, formatted text, WordArt, and tables. Additionally, you will use PowerPoint to add graphics, SmartArt, and media clips to desktop presentations to enhance audience attention and how to secure and share a presentation.

The work for this class will be done on Windows based computers using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

Course Objectives

  1. Work with an existing presentation.
  2. Determine type of visual output and select/design Template.
  3. Create a presentation outline.
  4. Format text on slides.
  5. Import and create simple graphics.
  6. Enter data and create a chart.
  7. Add static transition effects to standard text and graphic elements.
  8. Analyze the variety of dynamics, elements that change over time, currently available.
  9. Appropriately incorporate time-based data, such as video clips and animated charts into presentations.
  10. Import advanced graphics and animated sequences.
  11. Incorporate sound with sensitivity and subtlety into presentations.
  12. Manipulate sequences for maximum effect.
  13. Design speaker's notes and audience handouts.
  14. Design and run a complex desktop presentation.

III. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

A. Attendance

You must start the course within one week of your start date or you may be withdrawn for the course. Doing any one of the following is considered starting the course: completing the preassessment or submitting a project or taking a quiz.

B. Course Structure

This course is organized into ten Lessons and three major projects.  Each Lesson covers one chapter from the text. You need to carefully work your way through each Lesson.  Do NOT jump around from one part to another.  Each Lesson has the following parts:

Please carefully read the following.
  • If you want to ask the instructor a question or send the instructor a message, send an email to kate.sylvester@gcmail.maricopa.edu. Typically these messages will be replied to with one to two school days.
  • Assignments are graded about twice a week.
  • Course grades are calculated once a week.  If you need a grade at an earlier time you, send an email to kate.sylvester@gcmail.maricopa.edu to request special arrangements several days in advance.
  • All assignments MUST be sent in using the CIS118DB pages in BlackBoard.
  • DO NOT send Assignments through regular email to the instructor.

A. Grading Scale

Grades are an evaluation of the student's learning.  Your grade will reflect your level of competency. Your grade will be based on the following point system:

B. Converting Points to a Grade

Your letter grade will be determined by the following scale (please take note that the grade of "D" is not available in this course):  Students taking this course Pass/Fail must achieve a score of 700 or better to Pass.   Course grades are calculated once a week.  If you need a grade at an earlier time you, send an email to kate.sylvester@gcmail.maricopa.edu to request special arrangements several days in advance.

V. ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT POLICIES

A. Employee Acknowledgement

B. Student's Requiring Special Accommodations.

C. Extensions

You should receive an email reply in several days letting you know the status of your extension request.

D. Academic Dishonesty

Students are expected to do their own assignments.  Instances of academic dishonesty will result in NO CREDIT for the assignments for all who participate; repeated instances will result in a final grade of F.

It is the student's responsibility to read and be familiar with the course syllabus. Additionally it is the student's responsibility to be familiar with college policies covered in the Glendale Community College catalog and Student Handbook.
