    Read and do the work for the "ActionScript Part 1" chapter.

Practice Work
  1. Start Flash, open the file CIS120DC13.FLA
  2. Save the file as PRELOADER.
  3. Open the Scenes panel and insert a new scene.
  4. Rename Scene1 to SunnyDay. Rename Scene2 to Preloader.
  5. Reoder the scenes so that Preloader is above SunnyDay, compare to the following image
  6. Open the Preloader scene and insert an instance of the Sun movieclip to the stage.
  7. Using the Text tool insert the text "Loading" next to the Sun movieclip.
  8. Rename to the layer to "movieclip"
  9. Insert another layer and rename it to "action frame"
  10. Add a keyframe in frame 30.
  11. Add the frame action "ifFrameLoaded". The parameters are Scene is Sunnyday and the frame number is 60. With the Frame Action panel still open add the frame action "gotoAndPlay". The paramters are Scene is SunnyDay and Scene is 1. Compare to the image below:

    The frame action checks to see if the 60th frame in the SunnyDay scene is loaded,
    and when it is loaded it will began playing the SunnyDay scene starting at frame 1.
  12. Switch back to the SunnyDay scene and add a keyframe at frame 60 in the actionframes layer.
  13. Add the frame action "GoToandPlay". The parameters are CurrentScene and frame 1. Compare to the image below:

    This frame action will cause the movie to return to the beginning of the SunnyDay
    scene rather than return to the preloader scene.
  14. Save the file.
  15. Test the movie by using the Test Movie command from the Control menu.
  16. Compare to the swf file below. You may need to refresh this web page to see the preloader scene.

  1. Create a new file and use the necessary tools to replicate the swf file below.

    The movie should illustrate two different Flash techniques. The example above uses shape hints and motion guides, but you can choose any techniques covered in this class.
  2. Movie Properties
    • Movie Width: 400px
    • Movie Height: 290px
    • Create a three scene movie with navigation control
    • The user should be allowed to select which scene to play and be allowed to replay the scene or return to the first scene of the movie
    • Use frame actions and button actions to control the play of the movie
  3. Save the file as CIS120DC14
