The first thing you may want to do is to download the Course Guide, you
must log onto Blackboard and download the latest version of the Course Guide
for CIS126AA Web Edition. It will be in Adobe PDF so download the reader from
adobe.com if you don't have Adobe Reader yet, it is free.
The text for this course is only the Course Guide you download below.
However, if you are also planning to take the CIS126BA and CIS126CA then you
can OPTIONALLY purchase the Guide to UNIX Using Linux, 4th Edition, Michael
Palmer, Course.com, ISBN 978-1-4188-3723-5, you can obtain a copy at the campus
Book Store or on the WEB, again it is OPTIONAL for this course but required for
the 2 following courses UNIX Level II and Level III.
The next thing you may want to do is to download the secure software to
use from home to connect to the GCC Unix/Linux system for your exercises. Use
either the Putty link below or the SSH link below. Either one is satisfactory
for the course, the interfaces are slightly different but once you get
connected to the gnix.gc.maricopa.edu server there is no difference.
You may attend Orientation
in the HT Center or simply download the PowerPoint slide show here.
After viewing the presentation email me at esparza.cislabs@gmail.com to
let me know you have viewed the Orientation for credit.
Finally, you will want to begin reading the course guide you downloaded
from below and begin the course using your course guide and the secure shell
software you downloaded. The course guide also has tips on how to log in from
work or home or from another Unix/Linux system you may be using.
Additional links below will allow you to download the course Grade Sheets
for each assignment and also the Course Evaluation sheets that you are asked to
send me at the end of each Unit so I may know how to improve your Online
experience. Also use this sheet in case you find any errors such as spelling
errors or commands that do not appear to be working correctly. If you
experience a command that is not working, move on to the next topic, do not get
mired down trying to do something that may not function correctly on our
system. Continue on to the next topic!
