Welcome to the
The first thing you may want to do is to download the Course Guide, you
may want to NOT print this out because if you view the document in Word or Wordpad the links to this page will be highlighted so you
can simply "click" (or in some cases Ctrl+click)
to get the pages automatically downloaded and opened in your Word or Wordpad.
Another reason to not print it out is because hidden characters often
appear in the printed copy and can cause confusion on the commands listed. Use the Link below to download the
Course Guide for CIS126BA Web Edition.
The next thing you may want to do is to download the secure software to
use from home to connect to the GCC Unix/Linux system for your exercises. Use
either the Putty link below or the SSH link below. Either one
is satisfactory for the course, the interfaces are slightly different but once
you get connected to the gnix.gc.maricopa.edu server there is no
difference. The Secure Shell
software (SSH) and Putty software is located for download on the CIS126AA Home Page.
Finally, you will want to begin reading the course guide you downloaded from
below and begin the course using your course guide and the secure shell
software you downloaded. The course guide also has tips on how to log in from
work or home or from another UNIX/Linux system you may be using. This course
requites the text: Guide to UNIX using Linux, Third Edition, ISBN 0619215623, available at the
campus book store or elsewhere. Notice: There are 2 versions of the Third Edition, one has 2 Fedora Core 2 disks, the other version
has 2 Fedora Core 5 disks for installation, otherwise they are exactly the same besides the cover
being different colors. The newer version has a teal cover, the other has a black cover.

Additional links below will allow you to download the Course Evaluation
sheets that you are asked to send me at the end of each Unit so I may know how
to improve your Online experience. Also use this sheet
in case you find any errors such as spelling errors or commands that do not
appear to be working correctly. If you experience a command that is not
working, move on to the next topic, do not get mired down trying to do
something that may not function correctly on our system. Continue on to the
next topic!
