 Why should I take Management classes?

The reasons for taking Management course(s) at Glendale Community College depend upon your needs.

1.  College Degree

    If you plan to earn a 2 or 4 year degree, these courses will apply to your program.  If you are transferring to a 4 year university/college, our courses will transfer as electives or core depending upon the school.
2.  Current Employment
    If you are employed NOW and you either perceive that you need management courses or your employer is requiring or encouraging management development, then our courses continually address your needs.
3.  Small Business Owner
    In the fastest growing county (Maricopa) in the nation, OPPORTUNITY abounds for entrepreneurs.  Glendale Community College's "Owning and Operating a Small Business" (MGT253 us well known for helping small business owners prepare well developed business plans (See Testimonials).

MGT101 Techniques of Supervision 3 Credits
Overview of the foundations of supervision and how to get things done within an organization through other people. The functions of planning, organizing, staffing, motivating and controlling presented. Prerequisites: None.
MGT130 Women in Management 3 Credits
Overview of women in management addressing the history, economic and social changes of management positions in business and industry. Prerequisites: None.
MGT175 Business Organization and Management 3 Credits.
Covers basic principles of managing quality and performance in organizations. Covers management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Emphasizes continual improvement, ethics, and social responsibility. Prerequisites: None
MGT251 Human Relations in Business 3 Credits
Analysis of motivation, leadership, communications, and other human factors. Cultural differences that may create conflict and affect morale individually and within organizations. Prerequisites: None. MGT101 or MGT175 or MGT229 suggested, but not required.
MGT253 Owning and Operating a Small Business 3 Credits
Starting, organizing, and operating a small business, including location, finance management processes, advertisement and promotion, credit, inventory control and ethics. Prerequisites: None.

Management Internship 1 credit each
Management work experience in a business or industry. 80 hours of designated work per credit. Maximum of 3 credits allowed. Prerequisites: Departmental approval.
MGT276 Personnel/Human Resources Management 3 credits
Human resource planning, staffing, training, compensating, and appraising employees in labor management relationships. Prerequisites: None. MGT101, or MGT175, or MGT229 suggested but not required.
