Oracle Database Administration Certificate |
Program Description
This program provides students with the latest Oracle Database Administration skills necessary to perform the duties of an Oracle DBA. Materials and information in the certificate program will help prepare students for the Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Program examinations.
Certificate Requirements - 16 credits
A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses within the program.

Program Competencies
- Develop an understanding of computer information systems, fundamental computer concepts, and programming techniques. Required Course(s): CIS105
- Use Microsoft Windows to control the operating system for enhancing and improving application functionality: basic Microsoft Windows concepts, techniques, functions, commands and applications. Required Course(s): BPC/CIS123AA OR BPC/CIS123AE
- Use the UNIX operating system on a midrange or mainframe computer; basic concepts, commands, file organization and management, and task management. Required Course(s): CIS126AA
- Develop Standard English writing skills with an emphasis on expository composition. Comprehensive coverage of correct use of English grammar including spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and number style mechanics in a business context. Required Course(s): OAS108 OR ENG101
- Introduce students to a top-down, systematic approach to developing a relational database. Students will learn to define requirements as entities, attributes and relationships. From here, they will develop an entity-relationship (ER) diagram that accurately reflects the business. Finally, participants will learn how to map the ER diagram to an initial database design. Required Course(s): CIS164AG.
- Design and create database structures to store, retrieve, update and display data in a relational database. Required Course(s): CIS119DO
- Create PL/SQL blocks of application code that can be shared by multiple forms, reports and data management applications. Required Course(s): CIS119DO
- Learn the key tasks and functions required of a database administrator in a production environment. Required Course(s): CIS119DP
- Develop the expertise of handling the critical tasks of planning and implementing database backup and recovery strategies. Required Course(s): CIS119DQ
- Concentrate on tuning techniques for improving data access and storage. Required Course(s): CIS119DR
- Understand the basic principles of managing quality and performance in organizations such as management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Required Course(s): MGT101 OR MGT175
