| Trial Court Report | 40 |
| Appellate Court Report | 30 |
| Tests | 450 |
| Web Hunt | 50 |
| Total Possible Points | 800 |
ATTENDANCE:
You may earn up to 25 points per quarter of semester for attendance. Be sure to sign the roll sheet each class period.
PARTICIPATION:
You may earn up to 30 points for participation. In determining your participation
points, I take into account your preparation for class and the quality
of your comments. You are responsible for having read the chapter we are
to cover in the class on a particular day. You should be prepared to discuss
the material in the textbook at each class meeting, including the cases.
In addition, it is your responsibility to stay informed on legal/business
issues currently being discussed in the public forum. If you are not prepared
for class discussion on a particular day, please let me know, in writing,
before class and I will not call on you.
WALL STREET JOURNAL QUIZZES:
Up to four WSJ quizzes will be given throughout the semester. A WSJ reading list will be made available on the web on Fridays. Unless otherwise announced in class, quizes are given on Fridays over the WSJ list placed on the web the previous Friday. If a quiz is not given on a Friday (or other day as designated in class) the WSJ reading list that could have been tested on becomes obsolete and will not be used for testing on a future date. The quizzes are unannounced and can not be made up if missed. Generally, the quizzes consist of five true/false questions. The score on each quiz is calculated by finding the difference between the number of correct responses and the number of incorrect responses, up to a maximum score of five. Multiply your score by five to calculate points earned.
COURT REPORTS:
You must submit two Court Visit Reports. They are both graded on a scale of 0-10. Multiply the trial court report by four and the appellate court report by three to calculate points earned. The trial court report is due by April 6. The appellate court report is due by April 13. For the trial court report, you must spend a minimum of two hours attending any type of court proceeding (except for juvenile or grand jury proceedings) at the Arizona Superior Court, Maricopa County. In order to complete the appellate report, you must attend one oral argument at either the AZ Court of Appeals, Division I or the AZ Supreme Court. Be sure to make copies of both court reports. In addition, for the trial court visit, you must also turn in a copy of the court docket that pertains to the case you visited. Stop by during office hours or give me a call if you wish to review the basis for any score received on a particular court report.
TESTS:
Three multiple choice tests will be given throughout the semester.
Test dates will be announced in class. The tests are over material covered
in class and in the textbook. Bring a #2 pencil with a good eraser and
a scan-tron to each test. All exams are closed book and closed notes.
| Test #1 | 1-4 |
| Test #2 | 5-8 |
| Test #3 | 9,12,13,20 |
Multiply the percent correct on each test by 1.5 to calculate points earned.
WEB HUNT:
You will be provided with a number of questions to be answered by searching the world wide web. You will have to both answer the question and provide the URL of the web page where the answer was found. This assignment will be due by December 1.
