Course Information for GBS220

Textbook and Supplies: An Introduction to Management Science,8th Edition, by: Anderson, Sweeney and Williams and ascientific calculator are required. The study guide isoptional.

Prerequisite: MAT155 or equivalent. Your mastery of materialcovered in MAT155 will greatly influence your performance in this course.

Grades and testing: Your grade is based on three tests to be given throughout the semester and three sets of homework. Each test is worth 100 points. Each set of homework is worth 50 points. You will be tested on material covered in class and in the textbook. Emphasis is placedon properly working the problems. Bring a Scantron (which may be picked-upat the bookstore) and a #2 pencil with a good eraser to each test. You will be tested on material covered in class and in thetextbook. Except for Scan-tron answers, to receive full credit on testquestion, show all your work using proper notation. In addition, you willturn in folders at the time of each test containing you homework assignments. Penalties may be assessed for turning in homework late or taking tests late.

Two tentative final grades are determined based on these two scales:

Grade SCALE A SCALE B
90%- 100% 75th to 100th percentile
80%- 89%  50th to 74th percentile
70%- 79%  20th to 49th percentile
60%- 69%  10th to 19th percentile
F below 60%  below 10th percentile

The higher of the two tentative grades is your final grade for the course.

ATTENDANCE AND WITHDRAWAL P0LICY: Unless you make arrangementswith me, you may be withdrawn from the course if you have accumulatedmore than three unofficial absences. You will be allowed to withdraw fromthe course with a "W" if you submit a withdrawal form to me by three weeksbefore the final exam.

Do your homework or you will look like this during the test!HOMEWORK: You are required to turn in homework exercises on the day of each test.Homework must be placed in a folder prior to its being turned in. Examples of some of the assignments can be downloaded from an anonymous ftp site, ftp.maricopa.edu. In order to download an Excel wookbook, right click on its name and then click on 'Save Link As'. If you are not downloading the workbooks from GCC, be sure you have properly configured your browser. The workbooks are not always available to download.


Mr. Zhao Pincheng

Who is this guy?

He is Mr. Zhao Pincheng and his daughter, Zhao Zhiyue. Mr. Zhao is a Professor and the Vice-Directorof the Department of Economics and Management at Wuyi University. Wuyi University is located in Jiangmen City,Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. Jiangmen City is about 60 miles northwest of Hong Kong. Mr. Zhao received his Master's Degree in Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics majoring in industrial engineering and system engineering. Mr. Zhao teaches Management, Operations Research, Economics. Click on him to learn more about Wuyi University.


STUDENT PREPARATION RESPONSISILITY:You are responsible for readingeach respective chapter prior to the time we begin covering that chapter inclass. In addition, you should be prepared to work each exercise on thechalkboard, if requested. Reading the text is important for a goodunderstanding of the material covered in class.

INFORM: Scores are posted and are available for you on the INFORM system. You should periodically check your scores on the terminal. If you think ascore is incorrect, send me a message using the terminal.

You are also going to want check out theSpreadsheets Newsgroup. As partof an assignment, you may have to post a question to this newsgroup andturn in the correct response to your question (or, in the alternative, youmay correctly anwser someone else's question.) Your web browser must becorrectly configured in order for you to link to the newsgroup and exchangearticles and messages.
