General Technology (GTC)
GTC130
Furniture Construction I / 3 credits 6 periods
Process of building a piece of furniture including calculating and buying needed material, using tools properly and safely (hand tools and machines), jointery, wood preparation, and basic finishing techniques. Prerequisites: None.
GTC131
Furniture Construction II / 3 credits 6 periods
Continuation of GTC130 including special setups on machines, special joints, adhesives, special finishes, panel doors, panel drawers, metal drawer guides, and plastic laminates. Prerequisites: GTC130 or departmental permission.
GTC156
Furniture Upholstery I / 3 credits 5 periods
Techniques of general furniture upholstery, operations of webbing, springing, stuffing, trimming, sewing, and cushion making on approved student-selected projects. Prerequisites: None.
GTC157
Furniture Upholstery II / 3 credits 5 periods
Application and use of modern materials and tools, button tufting, channel construction, and special trim effects. Prerequisites: GTC156 or departmental permission.
GTC158
Furniture Upholstery III / 3 credits 5 periods
Advanced techniques in upholstering of furniture and other needle-trade items; time and money saving shortcuts in layout; fabric cutting and sewing. Prerequisites: GTC157 or departmental permission.
GTC159
Furniture Upholstery IV / 3 credits 5 periods
Advanced techniques of furniture upholstery for students interested in entering the upholstery trade; modern production techniques for sewing; stuffing; and finishing; job estimating; equipment selection and maintenance. Prerequisites: GTC158.
