Student Goals: General Education

Geography courses focus on the interrelationships between the earth and the humans who live on it. Cultural geography (GCU) courses describe and analyze geographical variations in relation to social, economic, and political phenomena. Physical geography (GPH) courses examine the relationships among the geographically variable components of the earth and their relation to the environmental problems facing contemporary society. All of these courses transfer to state universities. Students take these courses:

Description and analysis of area variations in social, economic, and political phenomena in major world regions. Emphasis on Europe, Russia, North Africa, and the Asian world. Prerequisites: None. (S)

Description and analysis of variations in social, economic, and political phenomena in major world regions. Emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Anglo America. Prerequisites: None. (F,S)

The historical to modern development of Arizona. The interplay between the physical, cultural, and economic factors affecting Arizona today. Prerequisites: None. (F,S)

Principles of physical geography relating to environmental problems pertinent to contemporary society. Pollution, maladjusted land use, resource exploitation. Prerequisites: ENG101 or ENG107 or equivalent. (O)
