Fundamentals of Spanish / 4 credits 4 periods

Accelerated study of elementary Spanish for students with previous Spanish coursework. Includes basic Spanish grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and the study of the Spanish- speaking cultures. Emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Prerequisites: SPA101, or SPA115, or two years of high school Spanish. (F,S,D,E)

Conversational Spanish. Basic sentence structure, pronunciation and vocabulary necessary to develop speaking ability in Spanish. Designed for students seeking speaking and listening abilities with little emphasis on grammar. Prerequisites: None. (F,S,D,E,Su1)

Spanish for Educational Settings II / 3 credits 3 periods

Basic conversational Spanish for teachers, counselors, administrators and other school personnel. Continuation of SPA119, expanding into secondary and post- secondary educational settings. Emphasis on basic sentence structure, pronunciation and vocabulary. Prerequisites: EPD/SPA119 or permission of department. (O)

Law Enforcement Spanish II / 4 credits 6 periods

Conversational and written Spanish. Intermediate sentence structure, and vocabulary practice that is law enforcement specific; develop intermediate level speaking, listening, reading and writing ability in common job related situations. Course taught in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA109 and satisfactory score on Pre-Test for Intensive Law Enforcement Spanish. (O)

Basic Spanish Study Tour / 1 credit 1 period

One-week tour designed to develop tourist vocabulary and survival skills in a Spanish-speaking country. Also includes cultural tours to museums and architectural sites. Prerequisites: None. (O)

Intermediate Spanish I / 4 credits 4 periods

Continued study of essential Spanish grammar and Spanish-speaking cultures. Continued practice and development of reading, writing, and speaking skills in Spanish. Emphasis on fluency and accuracy in spoken Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA102 or two years of high school Spanish, or departmental approval. (F,S,D,E,Su1)

Spanish for Spanish-Speaking Students I / 4 credits 4 periods

Designed for Spanish-speaking students. Emphasis on written composition, grammar review, punctuation and spelling, literature and conversation. May be taken in lieu of SPA201. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor or Department Chair. (O)

Spanish for Spanish-Speaking Students II / 4 credits 4 periods

Designed for Spanish-speaking students. Advanced study of Spanish grammar, composition, literature, and conversation. May be taken in lieu of SPA202. Prerequisites: SPA203, or SPA201, or permission of instructor or department chair. (O)

General business terminology, situations and correspondence in Spanish, including sections on cultural differences that can affect business transactions. Various specific busiess situations in Latin America and Spain contrasted with similar situations in the USA. Prerequisites: GBS151 and (SPA201 or permission of instructor). (O)

Continued development of skills in conversational Spanish with a review of grammatical problems. Prerequisites: SPA225, two years Spanish or the equivalent or departmental approval. (S,D)

Advanced Spanish Conversation I / 3 credits 3 periods

Continued development of skills in conversational fluency. Class conducted completely in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA226 or equivalent or departmental approval. (F)

Advanced Spanish Conversation II / 3 credits 3 periods

Further development of skills in conversational fluency. Grammar presented only to clarify student errors. Prerequisites: SPA235, or equivalent, or departmental approval. (S)

Spanish and Spanish- American Film I 3 credits 3 periods

Analysis of Spanish and Spanish-American film as art form and as social commentary. Includes documentary, biography, and films based on works of literature. All films, coursework, class participation, and oral and written reports conducted in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA202 or permission of department. (O)

SPA242
Spanish and Spanish-American Film II

Analysis and critique of movies presented in the Spanish language and produced by cinematographers from Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and the Mexican independent film producers. Includes documentary, biography, and works of literature and their film versions as art form and social commentary. Prerequisites: SPA241 or permission of department. (O)
Course Notes: All coursework, class participation, oral and written reports are in Spanish.

Advanced Spanish I / 3 credits 3 periods

Introduction and study of Spanish and Spanish-American literature. Selected readings from most Spanish-speaking countries. All discussions, oral reports, and written assignments are in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA202 or departmental approval. (F,E,O)

SPA266
Advanced Spanish II / 3 credits 3 periods

Further study of Spanish and Spanish-American literature. Reading selections from most Spanish-speaking countries. All oral reports, discussions, and written reports in Spanish. Graduated level of difficulty from the literature studied in SPA265. Prerequisites: SPA265 or departmental approval. (S,E,O)

SPA296
Cooperative Education / 1-4 credits

Work-college experiences that involve the combined efforts of educators and employers to accomplish an outcome related to the career objectives of the students. Prerequisites: Completion of at least twelve (12) college credits, minimum 2.6 grade point average, and be able to obtain a position related to student's academic or career goals (student's present job may qualify); or permission of instructor. Corequisites: Must be concurrently enrolled in at least one class which is related to student's major or career interest or with permission of the instructor. (O)
