Elementary Chinese
(Mandarin) I / 5 credits 6 periods
Introduction to the basic grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary of the Mandarin Chinese language. Includes the study of Chinese culture, practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Prerequisites: None. (F,E)
CHI102
Elementary Chinese
(Mandarin) II / 5 credits 6 periods
Continued study of grammar and vocabulary along with the study of Chinese culture. Emphasis on pronunciation and speaking skills. Prerequisites: CHI101 or equivalent. (S,E)

Beginning Chinese
Conversation I / 3 credits 3 periods
Introduction to Chinese sound system, basic grammar, and vocabulary necessary to develop speaking ability in Mandarin Chinese. Designed for students seeking speaking and listening ability with little emphasis on writing and reading Chinese characters. Prerequisites: None. (F,S,E)

Beginning Chinese
Conversation II / 3 credits 3 periods
Continued development of speaking and listening skills for effective communication in Mandarin Chinese. Includes elements of Chinese culture. Prerequisites: CHI115 or equivalent (S,E)

Organized and tailored around the interests and needs of the individual student. Structured to provide an atmosphere of individualized research and study paralleled by professional expertise and guidance. Professional-type facilities and equipment are made available for student use. Allows the best aspects of independent study and individualized learning to be combined to maximize student development. Prerequisites: Permission of Program Director or instructor.
