Graphic Design

Program Description:The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Graphic Design program offers the foundation study in design, color, typography, electronic color, technology, and software applications. Students enhance traditional methods and visual problem solving with digital imaging, 3D computer modeling, animation, web art and electronic media production. Restricted electives expand student abilities in drawing, life drawing, photography, multimedia and art history. Students develop self promotion skills and prepare a portfolio for entry level employment and/or for transfer to a four year college or university.

Program graduates seek and find employment in the advertising, printing, web and multimedia industries.

Graphic Design Certificate

Program Description: This certificate program covers digital and traditional graphic design methods that are essential to anyone involved with new media. Students learn layout and design techniques, electronic color, composition and typography to prepare artwork for print media and the Web.

Multimedia -
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) / 60-67 credits

Program Description:The Multimedia Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree offers four Multimedia Tracks: Design and Interactive Imaging, Digital Animation, Web Publishing Design, Media Imaging.

Students learn digital and traditional methods of design, concept development and production to prepare for careers in animation, digital imaging, games, web design, advertising and video technology, TV and film. Graduates find employment as animation special effects artists, 3D animation artists; web page and graphic designers; digital imaging artists, digital editing and sound specialists; digital video and digital paint production artists; and media art specialists.

Note: It is strongly recommended students complete the General Education Requirements before entering a program focus track.

Animation: Imaging and Design Foundation Certificate / 23 credits

Student Goals: Career-related

Program Description: This program, designed for the student who wishes to develop marketable skills in the area of digital imaging and animation; Working with 2D images, computer three-dimensional modeling, animated character development, concept development and compositing of visual graphics and video footage, student develops entry level skills to enter the multimedia industry. The processes are learned through the use of graphics software, animation software and non-linear video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator and other related applications.

The program prepares the student to identify career goals, present art portfolio, be apprised of pricing, promotion and publicity business ethics, artist rights and the copyright law for multimedia business. Further, the student develops the ability to communicate effectively with the business and industry personnel. Sample job titles could be digital artist, freelance artist-designer, animator, 3D model developer, and entry level games artist.

Animation: Advanced Imaging and Animation Certificate / 17 credits

Student Goals: Career-related

Program Description: This program is designed for the student who wishes to develop advanced skills in image creation, digital camera use in 3D environments, editing and use of postproduction techniques in a non linear environment, creation of digital film or a multimedia project content, digital effects, professional-quality animated titling, producing of music scores and inputting song data through the use of digital interface (MIDI) configurations, and streaming animation for video: the essential production tools for short animated films, games, animation for the Web, and image creation for the print media. Program Description:This program is designed for the student who wishes to develop an area of specialization in digital design and drawing for animation and multimedia. Traditional drawing, 2D electronic design, figure drawing, perspective drawing and illustration are integrated with digital drawing and animation techniques suitable for games, film, video, print and the Web. Students prepare for careers requiring creative work in electronic arts as digital artist, concept artist, designer, freelance artist-designer, web artist-designer or multimedia artist.

Web Publishing Design: Foundation Certificate / 24 credits

Program Description: This is a level I certificate designed for students who seek to enter the Graphics and Web Publishing industry. Traditional graphic design and layout process is enhanced with digital image creation: GIF, JPEG and Vector graphics appropriate for development of the Web pages. The Web Publishing Design: Foundation Certificate provides the opportunity for future work in designing for the Web for all levels of business and industry.

Web Publishing Design: Design and Authoring Certificate / 20-25 credits

Program Description: The Web Publishing Design: Design and Authoring Certificate is a level II certificate. It prepares the student to further their study of the web design process and learn how to control web security, access of data base control, along with issues pertaining to Webmaster duties: software development for web sites, client side script and Common Getaway Interface (CGI) scripting.
