Academic Concerns - We can help broaden your understanding of how to be successful here at GCC, as well as to help you choose courses. We will help you come to a clear understanding of your goals and how to achieve them, identify barriers that may stand in the way, and help you plan how to move past them.
Career Exploration - Career counseling is a process by which you can get help in deciding what you want to major in, what kinds of careers you would be best suited for, and/or what jobs to investigate. This involves talking to one of our counselors and possibly taking some career interest tests.
Personal Concerns - The college years are exciting and challenging, but at times the demands can be complicated and overwhelming. Anxiety, confusion, depression, and anger are among the many psychological obstacles to well-being, and often diminish potential and achievement. Asking for help during vulnerable times is a sign of strength. Counseling is generally short term and focuses on issue assessment, problem solving and decision making processes related to helping students overcome difficulties.
Crisis/Emergency - Counselors are available to assist with emotional difficulties that warrant immediate intervention. At times, some individuals may be referred to off-campus agencies or professionals.
Test Anxiety - Excessive worry or fear about exams that interferes with your ability to do well on tests is referred to as test anxiety. This involves both mental distraction and physical signs. Life Coaching - A counselor can guide you in identifying core life desires, uncovering authentic talents and in applying your unique qualities in pursuit of your goals.
Life coaching is positive, focusing on identifying your strengths, and is oriented towards the future.
