Click to See the Big PictureWe're taking Arizona's children on a journey to better health.
At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona we're concerned about the welfare of our children. We know there is an ongoing need to educate children about their health and identify possible health problems.

So we developed the Health Safari with that thought in mind. Designed primarily for grades K-6, it is a special health screening and education program for Arizona's children.

Our specialty designed van provides a friendly environment for a variety of basic health screening procedures at stations set up within the van.

With a van that travels around the state, more children throughout Arizona can receive the benefits of health education. Once at the site, local school nurses or other volunteer health professionals administer the screenings. A staff rnember from Blue Cross and Blue Shield drives the van and coordinates its visits.

A program to support schools and school nurses.
The Health Safari is only one step toward identifying problems. Once they've been identified, school nurses follow through with counseling and referral advice to parents. As an aid to school nurses, we've designed this program to emphasize health and safety education. It's our way of supporting the objectives of school nurses as well as the Arizona Department of Education and local health officials.

Seven steps to good health.
The Health Safari features screening equipment that can be used to check height, weight, blood pressure, head lice, dental, vision and hearing.

To encourage children to feel comfortable, The Health Safari is decorated with cheerful animals and bright colors. Once aboard, kids will find fun things to see and do.

Displays, a video monitor and literature dealing with children's health and safety topics are also on board. Parents receive a passport-style booklet for their child with a personalized record of screening data and a recommended immunization schedule.

Making sure The Health Safari goes the distance.
The Health Safari is taking off. It's a program that addresses the ongoing need for health education for children and their parents. And it's one way we can all show our commitment to the health of children throughout Arizona.
