CRYSTALLOGRAPHY - Triclinic

CRYSTAL GROWTH AND HABITS  - Amesite is found as tapering psuedohexagonal prisms or as tabular groups.

COLOR AND OTHER OPTICAL PROPERTIES - Colorless to lilac, pink to greenish;  transparent to translucent.

HARDNESS - 2.5 - 3

SPECIFIC GRAVITY - 2.78

LUSTER - Vitreous to pearly on cleavage faces.

STREAK - White, sometimes with a pale green hue

BREAKABILITY - Perfect micaceous cleavage along {001};  brittle

OCCURRENCE -  Amesite is a mineral produced by the low grade metamorphism of rocks rich in aluminum and magnesium.

ASSOCIATED MINERALS - Chlorite, Magnetite, Diaspore, Rutile, Grossular Garnet, Calcite, Diopside, Clinozoisite.

NAME - In honor of James Ames, a mine owner.
