CRYSTALLOGRAPHY - Orthorhombic, dipyramidal

CRYSTAL GROWTH AND HABITS - Crystals of Antlerite are commonly long slender prisms that have striation parallel to the "C" axis.  They are often acicular.  Crystal may also be tabular or may form aggregates to create granules or reniform masses.

COLOR AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES - Emerald to greenish black;  transparent to translucent

HARDNESS - 3.5 - 4

SPECIFIC GRAVITY - 3.88 - 3.93

LUSTER - Vitreous

STREAK - Light green

BREAKABILITY - Antlerite has a very good {010} cleavage and is brittle.

OCCURRENCE - Antlerite is a mineral that is formed in the oxidized zone of copper deposits, especially in arid environments.

MINERAL NAME - Named after it location of discovery - Antler Mine, Hualpai Mountains, Mohave County, AZ.
