Amygdaloidal basalt is formed when minerals are deposited in the almond shaped gas bubbles that were trapped in the basalt as it was cooling.  These vesicles or pores were later the site for mineral precipitation.  In this specimen, note that not all of the vesicles had the same amount of mineral (silica) deposited.
