CRYSTALLOGRAPHY - Triclinic, pseudo hexagonal

CRYSTAL GROWTH AND HABITS - Crystals of Chabazite are commonly rhombohedral (pseudo rhombohedral).  It can also be tabular, granular or massive.

COLOR AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES - The color of Chabazite can vary from white to yellow, pink orange, red or it can be colorless.  Its is transparent to translucent.

HARDNESS - 4 - 5

SPECIFIC GRAVITY - 2.0 - 2.2

LUSTER - Vitreous

STREAK - White

BREAKABILITY - Distinct cleavage along {1011} with an uneven fracture; brittle

OCCURRENCE - Chabazite is a Zeolite and occurs in basaltic rocks, but can also be found in limestones and even schists.

ASSOCIATED MINERALS - Nepheline, Melilite, Gismondine, Calcite, Dolomite

MINERAL NAME - From the Greek "chabazios" - an ancient name of a stone. (?)
