CRYSTAL GROWTH AND HABITS - Cylindrite forms concentric spherical or tubular shells and aggregates.  It can also be massive.

COLOR AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES - Silver white to dark gray.  Opaque.

HARDNESS - 2.5

SPECIFIC GRAVITY - 5.4 - 5.5

LUSTER - Metallic

STREAK - Black

BREAKABILITY - Very good cleavage along {100};  somewhat malleable.

OCCURRENCE - Cylindrite is found in tin bearing hydrothermal veins.

ASSOCIATED MINERALS - Franckeite, Stannite, Jamesonite, Cassiterite, Galena, Pyrite

MINERAL NAME - In allusion to its cylinder shaped habit.
