Welcoming
visitors to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles is a reconstructed diorama of
life in the area tens of thousands of years ago. Depicted in the scene is
an Imperial Mammoth mired in the tar of the pond. The premise is that the
tar has claimed another victim. This pool has been preserved and it
represents one of many that existed in the area in the early 1900's.
