halite1555.jpg (161167 bytes) These pink Halite crystals are from the brine pools of Trona, California.  The pink color is due to staining by bacteria that live in the super saline conditions of the pools.  These cubic crystals also nicely display hopper growth.

halite2555.jpg (135563 bytes) These Halite crystals are also from Searls Lake, Trona, California.

CVhaliteviolet.jpg (5087345 bytes) Halite cleavage fragment from the salt mine at Camp Verde, AZ.  The blue color is believed to be due to a disruption in the crystal lattice.
