Vents

TOPICS:

VOLCANIC BOMBS - Volcanic bombs are pieces of ejecta (ejectum - singular) that are greater than 64 mm in average diameter (about 2.5 inches) that were shot from the volcano in a somewhat plastic condition.  Typically these bombs were somewhat modified as they flew through the air.   The types of bombs in the archive include: fusiform, cow pie, rotational, slag, explosion, bread crust, teardrop, ribbon and core bombs.  The bombs in the Archive are from volcanic vents throughout northern Arizona, southern California and western New Mexico.
