Dr. Velvie Green opened the 2008-2009 academic year and greeted faculty and staff at the first of Convocation meetings this morning. As always, the morning event was quite well attended with more than 425 people in attendance, representing all employee groups. The morning group breakfasted from 7-8 a.m. in the Student Union under the Atrium Skylight. The general meeting was then held from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Student Union's Palm Court; the theme was Moving from Good to Great and Dr. Green challenged us all to "Walk the Talk" as we serve our students. Her comments were augmented by a brief video of the same name. New employees were introduced; others spoke of their summer international travels; and many shared "milestone" events they had experienced during the last year. The Arizona State Credit Union was the generous sponsor for the fifth consecutive year, continuing a tradition of community partnerships that support signature GCC events. (See first photo below.) After the group session, faculty participated in departmental meetings and PSA conducted a brief meeting. Convocation was repeated in the afternoon to accommodate those with alternate work schedules.
