  • Students of Biology and Sustainable Cities, and the Environmental Club, have created a petition for better transportation alternatives to GCC and the other MCCCD campuses.
  • Sign the petition online if you support increased light rail/bus access, subsidized passes, and better options for bikes. Signatures will be presented at the MCCCD Sustainability Dialogue Day on April 18th at 10:00 a.m. in SU-104.

2014 RecycleMania: February 2 - March 29, 2014

  • The RecycleMania tournament ran from February 2 - March 29, 2014.
  • Over a 10-week period, schools report recycling and trash data which are then ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate.
  • Click here for final results.
  • GCC placed 7 out of 149 in the Waste Minimization category.

Zero Waste Program

  • On America Recycles Day (November 15th), President Kovala reiterated her support for the Zero Waste initiative and announced that all employees would be participating in the near future. All office spaces will be converted to Zero Waste (7-gallon recycle bin + 1-gallon waste bin) by August 2014.
  • The Zero Waste Program is an initiative to reduce waste, maximize recycling, and reduce consumption. Participation in the program is voluntary. Click here for program information and sign-up form.

GCC Commits to Protect Climate

In February 2010, Chancellor Glasper signed the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) to pledge all of Maricopa to become carbon neutral. GCC's Greenhouse Gas Inventory is now complete (links below). Please join us this year as we develop our Climate Action Plan.
