TIP: GCC has a number of databases that are also provided through the MCCC District site - http://www.maricopa.edu/lts/databases.htm -. These databases are accessed using the student barcode on the reverse side of your GCC student ID card and pin# (last four digits of the telephone number you supplied when you registered for classes at GCC). You may need to validate your ID in the library system if you haven't borrowed any items recently or changed your phone number. Call 623.845.3109 during Library Media Center hours or come to the LMC Circulation desk in person with your student ID.
- Other causes may include:
- If you are at a work location, you company's security software may restrict access.
- Likewise, if you have set stringent security protocols on you home computer, access may be affected.
If none of these solutions work, there may be a problem with either the GCC server or one of the databases. Please report this to the HelpDesk.
- Call - 623-845-3555
- Email - Helpdesk@gcmail.maricopa.edu
- Visit our main helpdesk located in High Tech 1; just inside the west entrance.
What's a database and how to I use an electronic database?
A database is a collection of information, usually electronically stored. Relevant information can be searched for and retrieved using appropriate terms, dates, or other criteria. For our purposes, consider databases as sources for the full texts of articles in magazines, journals, newspapers, or reference materials, as well as images. The GCC library subscribes to these databases, and access is limited to students, faculty and staff of the college.
The tutorials below are designed to help you effectively use GCC's electronic databases.
- Access the LMC (Library Media Center) home page
- Access the Articles and Databases page from off-campus.
- Search a Database - Basic Keyword
- Limit Your Results - Limiters
- Retrieve Your Article - Print, Email, Save
- Add the LMC home page to your favorites/bookmarks.
