Maintaining Legal StatusTo keep your status as an F-1 student in the U.S. pay attention to the following:
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months at all times. Attend the school that issued the I-20. Be enrolled full time every semester. This is very. important. You must register for at least 12 credit hours every semester. File for an extension of your visa status if necessary before it runs out. Obtain proper authorization before you begin working on or off campus. Report any change of address.
Follow proper procedures for transferring from one school to another.
