NOTE: If you are registering for a LEO class you should either call the number listed below or register in person at GCC. Online registration will be difficult because these classes are restricted to Law Enforcement Personnel requiring proof of eligibility.

Basic Firearms I and II (LEO150 and LEO151)

The Basic Firearms course is designed to train those working in a corrections/detention environment to safely and competently use a handgun and shotgun. The course will include approximagely 16 hours of classroom instruction and approximately 44 hours of instruction on the firing range. Completion of the course will require meeting Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board requirements for qualification with both weapons systems. Please review the student prerequisites below to ensure you are eligible to enroll in the course.

Students must enroll in both LEO150 and LEO151 to complete the course.

Format: The class will be taught over three weeks, two days per week (actual days of the week will vary depending on the semester; Saturday & Sunday or weekdays). Times are 7:00 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. with a half hour for lunch.

Costs: 5 credit hours plus $15 registration fee if you are not currently enrolled at GCC. LEO150 is 3 credits and LEO151 is 2 credits. Total cost for both courses is $395 including registration fee.

Location: MCSO Range is located at 26900 W. Buckeye Hills Drive, Buckeye.  West on I-10 to US 85 and go south on US 85 (as if going to San Diego). The Buckeye Hills Recreation area is exactly 10 miles south of I-10 and Buckeye Hills Drive is just south of milepost 144. Turn west and go past the public range about ¼ mile to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Range.

Prerequisites:
• Must be employed by as a detention/corrections officer with a city, county or state agency; OR
• Be a volunteer for a law enforcement agency and have completed the agency's clearance process to receive approval from that agency to enroll.

Note: Prior to taking the class, verification of one of these two standards will be required.

Student Requirements:
• Students must provide a firearm, duty belt, and safety equipment (eye wear, ear plugs and hat). Shotguns will be provided.
• Students must provide 1,500 rounds of pistol ammunition, 50 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun slugs, and 50 rounds of 12-gauge buckshot.
