General Program for Exploratory Students

This program is suggested for students who wish to explore educational and/or occupational opportunities, or students who wish to pursue a broad two-year program of college courses. The following guidelines suggest which degree might be the appropriate goal.

AA Degree: This degree is appropriate for students who are currently undecided about a major course of study, but who intend to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree. (Once a major is chosen, students are urged to consult with a departmental advisor in order to plan an appropriate program.)

AGS Degree: This degree is appropriate for students who wish to explore a broad range of subjects for personal satisfaction without intending to transfer to a four-year institution.


Note: Students who later decide to pursue the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in a specialized career program should consult with a faculty advisor for that program as soon as possible after the decision is made.

BIO 102 General Biology (Non-Majors) II 4
Students interested in Physical Science:
CHM 130 Fundamental Chemistry (3) AND
CHM 130LL Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory (1) 4
GLG 110 Environmental Geology I (3) AND
GLG 111 Environmental Geology I Lab (1) 4
PHS 101 Introduction to Physical Science: Physics and Chemistry (4) OR
PHS 120 Introduction to Physical Science: Astronomy, Meteorology, Geology, and Oceanography (4) 4
Social and Behavioral Sciences:
The following are suggestions for students who have no preferences in social and behavioral sciences courses:
HIS 100 History of Western Civilization to Middle Ages (3) OR
HIS 101 History of Western Civilization Middle Ages to 1789 (3) OR
HIS 102 History of Western Civilization 1789 to Present (3) 3
PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology 3
SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology 3
+ Indicates that course has Prerequisites.
