Department Mission

The mission of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Glendale Community College is to prepare our diverse student population to be productive and contributing members of their community with problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and to instruct & motivate students to use the power, beauty, and utility of mathematics and computer science to successfully impact that community for the better.
 

Department Goals For Students

• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of mathematics and computers needed to function in society.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of mathematics and computers necessary for a given graduation degree or certificate of completion program.
• Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and computer science in preparation for further academic study and/or career achievement.

Student Competencies

• Perform basic mathematical calculations in everyday situations.
• Use mathematics techniques to solve problems in a chosen educational field.
• Perform mathematical calculations necessary in a given technical/business career field.
• Use computers effectively.

Assessment

• Implement course level assessment instruments across the curriculum.
• Perform item analysis of MAT/CSC course assessment.
• Improve the level of delivery of the course content across the curriculum.
