The primary purpose for the meeting was to provide update on a number of issues. No motion was offered. No vote was taken. The following updates and announcements were provided:
· President Reed recognized the following individuals and groups for their achievements and effort:
· Jim Daugherty for his work on “Meet and Confer”

The Senate provides light refreshments. The setting is informal and open dialogue is encouraged.
· Senators’ Bob Hubbard and Jeanne Saint-Amour reported on the voluntary mediation process developed by the Ethics Committee and now available as one way to resolve conflict at the faculty level.
· Senator Carl Samuels attended a strategic planning workshop on August 10th, 2001. Workshop topics included discussions about the planned 2004 bond election. Senator Samuels urged faculty to begin working now to develop a clear vision of what we want GCC’s educational environment to become in the future. He encouraged each department to do the same and to communicate that vision to Dr. Pollack so that it can be used as a component in the development of the next bond issue.
· Members of the Faculty Professional Growth Committee, Reinhold Kiermayr and Joseph Bednorz, summarized some of the new opportunities for earning salary advancement; as well as recent steps to streamline the application process. Related forms can be downloaded from www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/sfg/index.hgnl. Submit completed forms to either Reinhold or Joseph.
· Gay Garesche reminded faculty, particularly those with less than 5 years tenure that they can use the required observation visit made by their respective Dean and Chair each year as part of their Faculty Evaluation Plan. It just requires asking those officials to sign-off twice on the related form.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 AM. The next regular meeting of the Senate Faculty will be conducted on Thursday August 23rd, 2001 at 2:30 PM in the Council Chambers.
Respectfully submitted:
