The Emergency Shelter Hotline was formed to assist individuals and families looking for available shelter. Rather than having to call a number of shelters, the individual/family needing information can now call a single number to receive up-to-date information. Students will have the opportunity to get some hands-on experience, see the ins and outs of the system.

Qualifications and skills desired::

Social services knowledge and good listening skills. Also, good at eliciting information from callers.

Responsibilities:

Assess the need of each caller. If the need is not emergency shelter, refer to the proper agency. Familiarize self with shelter facilities and service providers for homeless and also the "Directory of Human Services." Fill out Demographic Information Log for each phone call. Office work is also available for those interested. Students get hands-on experience and see the ins and outs of the system, also many networking possibilites.

Special conditions or requirements:

Proper phones skills are required. Calls are transferred directly to volunteer's home (home phone number is not given out).

No more than four hours a day (hotline operates 24 hrs.) on a date and time that is convenient.

Operate and maintain 108,000 Acres of regional park system. System composed of seven administered areas. Primary function is resource management.

Qualifications and skills desired::

Some computer skills; Interest in photography, writing, scripting and audio/visual skills; Capacity to do historical research and composition.

Responsibilities:

Assist with field photography on park-user activities and historical locations; Assist with developing a good public information program; Assist with and do independent research on the history of the various park areas.

The Assessment Center administers GED (high school equivalency) exams to high school drop outs and non-completers. Mesa Community Education program prepares students for the GED by offering free classes throughout the city.

Through Mesa Arts Center activities and Galeria Mesa exhibits, we provide entry-level activities in the arts for people of all ages and backgrounds, so they may experience and participate in the arts. We also provide in-depth experiences for those members of the population more advanced in the arts.

Assist pottery instructor with studio operations. Assist Galeria Mesa Curator with installation design and execution. Work with Visual Arts Supervisor on an individualized project designed to meet Mesa Arts Center and student needs.
